HISTORY - AMEZRUY
Below are select articles and links summarizing the history of the Amazigh people in general and of the Kabyle people in particular
The origins of imazighen
It has been said that the question is not what origins the Amazigh have, but what origins don't they have. All sorts of origins have been attributed to the Amazigh clearly for political reasons. Even the most uninterested researcher has demonstrated some sort of bias in the treatment of this question. Between the Yemeni origins Arabs and orientalists have given them to the Celtic, or Germanic ones others have attributed to them during the colonial era, Kabyles and Imazighen have been anything but themselves. As more research is being done in the fields of archeology, linguistics and DNA, these theories on origins have been debunked and the biases made clear.
While the issue is a complex one, the notion that Imazighen do not have to come from somewhere ,i.e. they are simply from North Africa has become clearer and clearer. The following conference given by Kabyle linguist Salem Chaker helps bring light into the complexities of a this very ancient people.
